I am privileged to serve in the United States Army Reserve.  This year, I had annual training at Fort Dix in New Jersey for two weeks and during a day off, I had the opportunity to visit the site of Washington’s crossing of the Delaware River.  If you have never had the chance to visit this small park on the western edge of New Jersey right at the Pennsylvania border, I encourage you to do so.  There is a great museum and well-preserved historical buildings giving a glimpse into the important crossing during Christmas night at the inception of the Revolutionary War.  It is nice to remind ourselves of the immense sacrifice expended by those before us as they forged a new nation of self-rule and governance based upon individual rights and freedoms.
